LETTER FROM THE EHS PRESIDENT

Dear Member of EHS, dear Colleague

After one year of my mandate as President of our Society I would like to bring you up to date on our activities. It has been a year rich of activities and more are planned for the future.

First of all welcome to the new members coming from the different countries. Other submitted applications are waiting to be evaluated by our next General Assembly. Hope you will be active in promoting the activities of our society and in giving a scientific contribution in our meetings.

The Ex-Com has done a great job. New committees have been established or are under construction (Scientific, Educational, Website, Historical). The problems of bank account and of fee collecting are finally solved. We have a new Secretary Mrs Angelika Sprenger, located in Innsbruck, that can be contacted for every need regarding the Society (e-mail address: angelika.sprenger@uki.at). We thank Mrs. Renate Fechter for her past contribution.

In the new website of EHS you can find updated news regarding the Society’s activities, future events and useful links. It is the first time that we have an official and independent website.

The conjoint Meeting with the European Bone and Joint Infection Society organized in Copenhagen last June during the EFORT Congress was a success both in attendance and in high scientific contents. The experience of collaboration and of covering three different sessions was unique and could be repeated in future with other speciality societies.

Future events

After the successful experience of the Combined EFORT-EHS Advanced Instructional Course held in Milan in 2009, a new one is scheduled for the next year in Athens (20-21 April 2012). It will be an EFORT ExMex IC combined again with EHS and the Local Organizer, our Past President George Macheras, got an excellent program ready with lectures and live surgery.

During the next EFORT Meeting in Berlin (23-26 May 2012) our Society will organize a Special Session on “Conservative Treatment of Osteoarthritis of the Hip”. Martin Krismer has prepared a very interesting program on this topic that must be addressed by our Society. Details about exact date, time and room will come soon.

You can get more information regarding these events and be updated on future activities visiting this website.

Next year the main event for us will be of course our EHS meeting in Milan, celebrating our 10th Congress. The venue will be Milan Marriott Hotel on 20-22 September 2012. Abstracts submission in now opened on the Congress website (www.ehs2012.org). All of you are invited to submit abstracts both for oral presentation and for e-poster. The contribution of each member is essential for a high scientific program. The deadline is 31 March 2012. The two best presentations in "Scientific contents" and "Innovation", after due evaluation by the Scientific Committee, will receive an award granted by Hip International respectively of 1.500 € and 1.000 €. The awarded abstracts will be published as full original article/review in a forthcoming issue of Hip International. All selected abstracts will be included in a regular issue of Hip International available at the Congress.

Future activities particularly in the field of education will be promoted by EHS and you will be informed soon. Every suggestion and contribution from the members are of course very well accepted.

Looking forward to meeting you soon, I wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Luigi Zagra
